Not Just Another Waist Belt

Overstuffed jersey pockets and bulging cargo bibs are not uncommon sights on riders trying to maximise every last bit of storage space, especially on long and remote rides and races. But jersey pockets can sag and cargo bibs can pull, causing irritation and discomfort. While there are many non-cycling specific waist belts available, we knew there had to be a better way, so we developed the Expedition Waist Belt: a universal on-body carry option designed just for cyclists.

The rise in popularity of cargo cycling and bib shorts has certainly been transformative for many riders – from those wanting to carry their daily essentials without a backpack, to ultra-distance cyclists looking to carry as many snacks as possible between resupply points. Together with jersey pockets, clothing options for on-body carry are certainly plentiful – but not without drawbacks.

When jersey pockets begin to sag riding can become uncomfortable, overstuffed cargo bibs can pull and rub. There’s also a whole portion of riders who choose to wear loose fitting clothes, making the jersey pocket a less common sight – especially for off-road riders. Additionally, there is an increasing group of long-distance tourers who have moved away from a chamois-based system all-together, meaning the storage afforded by cargo bibs are not an option.

Beyond the bib

With the Expedition Waist Belt, we set out to address some of the issues that riders have experienced when trying to maximise their use of jersey and bib pockets, whilst also allowing all riders to increase their on-body carry capacity without compromising their layering system. The Expedition Waist Belt offers 1L of storage spread over one large main pocket and two smaller side pockets.

The devil’s in the detail

Designed from the ground up specifically for cyclists, we were keen to make sure the Expedition Waist Belt was set apart from other, similar products designed for general use. Sitting near the hips – lower than jersey or cargo bib pockets – with a tapered design, The Expedition Waist Belt makes on-the-go pocket access easier, as well as providing a better area to distribute weight when loading up for rides beyond regular resupply.

The buckle-based closure system means that the belt can be removed quickly and easily without needing to ‘step out’, and is placed to the side rather than in the middle of the belt, to maximise comfort when in the riding position. Going one step further, the buckle itself has a curved design which sits comfortably against the body.

Available in two sizes (S/M and L/XL) with an adjustable strap, we’re confident the Expedition Waist Belt will provide a fit for all bodies, ensuring comfort and stability on all types of ride. The lightweight, breathable 4-way stretch mesh fabric keeps the weight of the product itself low (70g for the S/M size) and guarantees a barely-there feel and all-day comfort.
