As gravel and off-road ultra-distance riding have evolved in recent years, so too has the approach of racers, with equipment and bike set-ups now varying dramatically between different races, a reflection of the increasingly competitive nature of these races.

In previous years, the aid stations of the iconic Unbound gravel race were a pretty casual affair, as riders re-filled their packs and bottles with relative calm before continuing on their 200 mile journey through the dirt roads of Kansas. Fast-forward to 2024 and we have witnessed something more akin to a Formula 1 style pitstop, complete with pit crews, wheel changes and an entirely different attitude to what was once a relatively casual part of the race.

In Europe, where Traka and Badlands act as the key events in the gravel and off-road ultra-distance calendar, the same change is felt, as riders seek to minimise stopping times and gain as much self-sufficiency as possible. Hydration Vests are a recurring sight at these races, with some riders choosing to utilise on-body hydration solutions designed for running to find the right balance of features and weight, be it, without a dedicated cycling-specific fit, causing comfort and stability issues over long distances and demanding terrain. Others choose to use packs with large storage capacity, usually designed for MTB riders, neither utilising the full capacity, nor benefitting from a myriad of unused features.

Developed to meet the needs of gravel and ultra- distance racers, the Racing Hydration Vest is focussed on low weight, breathability and stability for use in demanding and varied race scenarios. Available in two sizes, with multiple points of adjustability means a fit for all bodies, with a dedicated on-bike anatomic fit providing all-day, chafe-free comfort on the most challenging of terrain.

Weighing 350g in a S/M (with the included 2L Fast Flow Bladder) the Racing Hydration Vest is an ultralight offering, which is also feature-rich. At the front, a large stretch mesh pocket provides easy-access storage for gels and bars (with a dedicated waste pocket). A large, zippered pocket keeps essentials secure and close to hand, with two zip pockets on the rear of the pack providing 3.5L of additional storage for race-day essentials like a packable jacket.

Although developed to meet the evolving needs of racers, the Racing Hydration Pack is also a great solution for those looking to take their day rides further, giving expanded hydration and storage capacity for rides that push boundaries and go deeper into challenging terrain.
